Galerie Melbye-Konan presents Monumentalis

STREIFZUG, May 10, 2023
Solo exhibition of the internationally renowned Hungarian artist Márta Kucsora in Hamburg's largest gallery.

This is the title of the solo exhibition of the internationally renowned Hungarian artist Márta Kucsora, which can be seen from 15 April to 30 June 2023 at Galerie Melbye-Konan in Hamburg.

The works by the artist, who was born in 1979, are monumental both in terms of their content and their enormous size: Nearly three metres high and five metres wide, the works are shown to their full advantage in the 400 square metres of Galerie Melbye-Konan with its five-metre high ceilings. Gallery owner Stella Melbye-Konan says: "We really wanted to show these impressive, huge works. Fortunately, our spacious gallery space makes this possible." Galerie Melbye-Konan is the largest gallery in Hamburg.

Expressive, poetic abstraction

The Hamburg gallery owner is particularly proud to be able to show works by Márta Kucsora that were already hanging in the museum. Until recently exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Art of the Kepes Institute and the Budapest Art Gallery, the large and smaller works can be viewed and purchased at the gallery on a museum level. All the works on display are characterised by a distinctive pictorial language: expressive, poetic abstraction, characterised by special colouring and immense movement.

Experimental scientific approach

Kucsora's work is influenced by Abstract Expressionism, which was influenced by Pollock and Rothko. In her creative process, Kucsora breaks new ground, experimenting with colour and viscosity and taking an experimental scientific approach. Kucsora's painting process is also revolutionary: "I do without preliminary sketches, emphasising the choreographic arrangement, the rehearsal of movements, the self-directed manoeuvring of my working technique". A time-consuming process, considering that Márta works on her pieces for up to two years.

An insider's tip for quality art

"I was immediately fascinated by the power and uniqueness of her work," says Stella Melbye-Konan. Kucsora's work fits perfectly into the portfolio of Galerie Melbye-Konan, which is known for its strong contemporary positions. "Our collectors say that we are the insider's tip for exceptional and impressive art, and that we also have a good nose for art that increases in value," says Stella Melbye-Konan, who has ten years of experience in the art market. In terms of appreciation, Kucsora is far from reaching her zenith: "Márta is a mid-career artist with a lot of potential," is the gallery owner's professional assessment. Kucsora has an impressive exhibition history - China, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, USA, Germany, Hungary - and is represented in renowned private and public collections worldwide. This places her among the international artistic elite.
